Thinking about and developing new ideas for tiles never ends at Claybrook HQ. It’s a joy to see scribbles on a page end with tiles on a wall or floor months later. We endeavour to always have something our customers can ooooh and ahhh about coming down the line, and this summer we have some lovely things to share with you.

Not since the late 90’s has the warm tones of terracotta and clay felt fresh. It was a 20-year love affair that ended with a whimper when neutrals and simplicity swept the homes and interiors world around the year 2000. Like a phoenix rising from a fiery kiln these earth tones are back.

Terracotta has been used for millennia to create human forms, statues and tile and had a particular revival in the 19th century as ornament for buildings and even in art. We have sourced some stunning tiles for the floor (or indeed wall) from a family business in Serbia where many old buildings are taken down and the materials re used. Terracotta panels on the roof are ubiquitous and so easily available for re-use. Cleaned and cut they create wonderful floor tiles with the patina and age an intrinsic part of the charm. We also have handmade terracotta from Spain for a more uniform if no less desirable look.

Warm tones extend into our new Splash wall tile collection. Named in reference to an iconic David Hockney painting, the range exudes summer sun in a series of bright crisp colours. Combined with the clean lines and glazed finish they look so attractive and fresh. The Coral option is a particular favourite colourway with the Claybrook team.

We feel deep blue is the new Grey when it comes to walls and so we have created this hue within a few ranges. One example is the Renzo hex;  a practical porcelain mosaics whose Shard colourway in such a pretty dusky blue; perfect for creating a little impact.

Shape has evolved in recent years as key to creating walls with pizzazz. Our Xanadu mosaics (named after the Olivia Newton-John song for no other reason than we just love it at Claybrook!) are a collection of decorative hues all in a miniature fan configuration. Likewise, our new Haven marble mosaics are in enduringly graceful patterns for a pretty and tailored finish for both walls or floors.
